FSU Coach Fisher, Confirms Starting Safety Out For 1st Half Of Season Opener...

on Friday, May 19, 2017

Crimson Tide Football:

A few months before kickoff with Alabama, Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher confirmed a situation that will impact the Sept. 2 showdown.

Speaking to reporters at the ACC Spring Meetings in Amelia Island, Florida, Fisher said starting safety Trey Marshall will be out for the first half of the 2017 season opener, reported.

The 30-minute suspension is a carryover from an ejection for targeting in the Orange Bowl win over Michigan last December.

Since it occurred in the second half, Marshall would have to miss the opening half of the next game. That doesn't change even if that next contest is the following season.

Marshall started 11 games last season as a safety and nickel-backer. The rising senior led the team in tackles in consecutive games against Wake Forest (eight) and eventual-national champion Clemson (11).

Alabama and Florida State figure to be preseason-top five teams when they meet Sept. 2 in Atlanta's still-under construction Mercedes Benz Stadium.

See for Fisher's full comment on the Marshall situation.
