Former Alabama coach Gene Stallings recovering after slight stroke...

on 5/20/2017

Crimson Tide Football:

Former Alabama coach Gene Stallings suffered a slight stroke Thursday and was hospitalized in Montgomery.

"I know I wasn't feeling good around 12 o'clock,"
he said from his home in Paris, Texas.

Nevertheless, Stallings, 82, attended the Jimmy Rane Foundation charity golf tournament dinner in Alabama's capital city, where he introduced Clemson coach Dabo Swinney, one of his former players and assistants.

Following the function -- and approximately at 10 p.m. -- Stallings went to receive medical attention.

He had lost peripheral vision in his right eye but said he can see straight ahead and is expected to undergo more tests in the near future.

"Bottom line is I'm not supposed to do anything for five, six weeks,"
he explained.

Stallings coached Alabama for seven seasons from 1990 to 1996, where he compiled a record of 70-16-1 and led the Crimson Tide to a national championship in 1992.

The former assistant to legendary coaches Bear Bryant and Tom Landry was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in July 2011.
