Crimson Tide Rowing:

In addition to one of the best seasons in program history on the water, Alabama rowing saw equal success in the classroom during the 2016-17 spring semester.

The Crimson Tide posted a 3.524 team grade point average, its highest GPA in program history.

"Academic excellence is always what we strive for," UA head coach Larry Davis said.

"To have the team achieve this landmark GPA is truly impressive and exciting. I look forward to our continued academic success in the coming years."

The program boasted 30 Academic All-Big 12 honorees this semester, including 27 on the league's first team, which requires a GPA of 3.20 or higher.

Of the 176 total Academic All-Big 12 award winners across the league, 20 posted a perfect 4.0 GPA and Alabama accounted for a league-leading six of those 20.

In its three seasons as a Big 12 affiliate, Alabama has earned 95 Academic All-Big 12 honors.

On the water, Alabama capped a successful spring with a fourth-place team finish and three event medals at the 2017 Big 12 Championships, both of which are program bests.

The Tide took home silver in the First Varsity 4+ and Third Varsity 8+ and bronze in the Second Varsity 4+. Of the 19 student-athletes in the three medal-winning crews, seven earned Academic All-Big 12 honors.

"This year has truly been a landmark for the program," Davis said. "Not only have we achieved the best spring racing season ever for the program, we also achieved our best academic performance.

This has been marked in our awards received through the Big 12 and the SEC, but also with our team GPA being a new benchmark for the program.

To achieve this kind of successful balance between academics and athletics is one of our main goals and I am very proud of the team for their success."
