Alabama Men's Golf in Fifth After 36 Holes at 2017 NCAA Washington Regional...

on 5/17/2017

Crimson Tide Men's Golf:

SAMMAMISH, Wash.;

The No. 36-ranked Alabama men's golf team dropped two spots to fifth overall with a team total of 12-over par 580 (283-297) after 36 holes of play at the 2017 NCAA Washington Regional.

The Tide, along with the 14-team field that features seven squads ranked among the top-40 in the nation, were forced to wait out a nearly four-hour rain delay prior to teeing off Tuesday's second round.

Despite the poor playing conditions, Alabama continues to remain in the hunt for one of the top five slots that guarantees a spot at the NCAA Men's Golf National Championship, which will be played at Rich Harvest Farms course in Sugar Grove, Ill., on May 26-31.

Top-ranked USC leads the field at 5-under par 563, while first round leader and 24th-ranked Florida State is in second with a 2-under 566.

The Trojans and Seminoles are the only teams who are currently below par. Kent State, ranked No. 12, is in third with a 1-over 569, while Penn State is in fourth at 578 – two strokes ahead of the Tide.

Regional host and No. 30 Washington (581) is in sixth, followed by No. 12 Texas A&M (583), No. 37 San Diego State (584), Michigan (590) and UTEP (591) to round out the top-10, respectively.

Junior Steven Setterstrom continues to set the pace for the Crimson Tide, as he comes into Wednesday's third and final round in a tie for 13th with a 1-over par 143 (68-73).

Junior Lee Hodges is in a tie for 16th, just one stroke back of Setterstrom with a two-day total of 2-over par 144 (71-73) on the par 71, 6,885-yard Aldarra Golf Course.

Sophomore Davis Riley carded back-to-back rounds of 73 and is in a tie for 27th at 4-over 146, while junior Jonathan Hardee is in a tie for 33rd with a 147 (71-76). Redshirt freshman Josh Sedeno rounds out the Tide golfers in a tie for 59th with a 155 (75-80).

The top five teams from each of the six regional sites and the top individual finisher not on an advancing team will move on to the National Championship. In all, the national championship will feature 30 teams and six individuals.

Alabama will tee off the third and final round of Regional play at 9:50 a.m. CT (7:50 a.m. PT) off Hole No. 1, and will be paired alongside Penn State and Washington.
