Tide had some key recruits for this past Friday's scrimmage....

Crimson Tide Spring Football:

Alabama hosted some key recruits on Friday for its second spring scrimmage and seems to have made up ground on at least one.

1-Jacob Copeland, a 4-star receiver from Pensacola, Fla., said last month at the New Orleans Opening that Alabama wasn't much of a factor anymore and then told reporters at Auburn last weekend that he would choose between Auburn and Florida at the Under Armour All-America Game several months from now.

He came back and then added Ole Miss and Tennessee to his top five. Things change all the time early in recruiting and Alabama seems to have a much better chance with Copeland now.

2-Jerome Carvin, a 3-star offensive lineman from Cordova, Tenn., was in Alabama on Friday. He likes Alabama a lot, as he alluded to last month. Carvin was in Auburn last weekend.

3-Dameon Pierce, a 4-star running back from Bainbridge, Ga., who committed to Alabama last summer, was in Tuscaloosa. Pierce has rushed for 3,600-plus yards over the past two seasons but this is believed to be his first Tuscaloosa trip in several months.

4-Jack West, a 4-star quarterback from Saraland, also made the trip. West was very steadfast in his Stanford commitment last month, but remains in contact with Alabama.

a-Alabama lost out on a key offensive tackle recruit when Franklin, Tenn., 4-star Max Wray pledged to Ohio State. Wray recently decommitted from Georgia and his younger brother Jake is a top 2020 prospect.

b-Watch out for tackles like IMG Academy 4-star Reuben Unije on Alabama's radar.

c-2020 Connecticut QB Drew Pyne, who has an Alabama offer, was also there.

April 15 is the first day that assistant coaches can go on the road to scout prospects and that period runs through May 31. Most high schools have spring practices that start later in April and run through mid-May, so that will be the top time where coaches are on the road.
