Alabama Softball Falls in Game Two Pitcher’s Duel to #8 LSU, 1-0...

on 4/09/2017 08:47:00 AM

Crimson Tide Softball:

Alabama softball dropped a tightly-contested game to LSU Saturday at Rhoads Stadium, falling 1-0 to even the weekend series.

Alabama (34-7, 9-5 SEC) was held scoreless on just three hits while LSU (32-8, 8-3 SEC) tallied five hits, driving in the lone run of the game in the top of the fifth.

Sydney Littlejohn (14-2) took the hard-luck loss in the circle, just her second of the season. A season-high 3,376 fans packed Rhoads Stadium, the third crowd above 3,000 so far this season.

The two teams were locked in a scoreless tie until the top of the fifth when Bailey Landry dropped a two-out RBI single into right field, scoring one and putting runners at the corners.

A hit-by-pitch would load the bases but a high fly ball to shallow right would get Alabama out of the jam, limiting the damage to one run.

In the bottom-half of the inning, Gabby Callaway roped a two-out double into the gap in left-center, representing Alabama's first runner in scoring position.

A popup in foul territory would keep her stranded as it remained 1-0, which ultimately proved final.

The weekend series concludes on Sunday, set for a 2 p.m. CT start. The game will air live on ESPN2.
