on Saturday, March 18, 2017

Crimson Tide Softball:

The offense came alive for Alabama's softball team Friday night in Starkville.

It extended the winning streak to 20 with another run-rule victory, this time against Mississippi State. The 11-3 final included nine Crimson Tide hits. More importantly, the visitors stranded only four runners to stay perfect in the SEC.

Alabama (27-2, 4-0 SEC) scored three in the first and two in the second to gain early cushion It started with Peyton Grantham's 3-run homer to center.

Marisa Runyon had an RBI single in the third and a run-scoring double in the game-clinching fifth. The Tide scored five in the fifth to secure the run-rule.

Mississippi State fell to 21-6, 1-3 in the SEC with the loss.

Alexis Osorio (15-1) got the win in 4 1/3 innings of pitching that saw her school-record scoreless-inning streak end at 40. A two-run homer by Reggie Harrison bumped her ERA to 0.94. The national strikeout leader recorded four Friday night.

Sydney Littlejohn finished the game with a strikeout in a non-save relief appearance.

The three-game set continues at 6 p.m. CT Saturday in Starkville.
