on 3/05/2017

Crimson Tide Swimming:

Olympian Leonie Kullmann will be returning to Tuscaloosa after signing a national letter of intent   to join the Crimson Tide in the fall Alabama swimming and diving head coach Dennis Pursley   announced this week.

"She is a very talented young lady who will help our women's team get to the next level,"
Pursley   said. "We are very excited to welcome her to the Alabama swimming and diving family."

Kullmann, a native of Dresden, Germany, trained in Tuscaloosa from 2009-11 after the family   moved to Alabama when her father took a job at the Mercedes plant. She swam for the Crimson   Tide Aquatics club team during that period.

Upon her family's return to Germany, she swam for coach Alexander Römisch at SG Neukölln. She swam at the 2016 Rio Olympic   Games as part of Germany's 800-meter freestyle relay squad.

She also swam for Germany at the 2015 European Games, earning a silver medal in the 400-meter freestyle and a bronze in the   200m freestyle.

The daughter of Raik and Anke Kullmann, she is a senior at Schul-Und Leistungssportzentrum (SLZB) in Berlin.

Kullmann is the ninth member of 2017-18 freshman class for the Alabama women's team, which already includes Sydney Dawson,   Alina Faunce, Lydia Jackson, Kathryn Nicholson, Maria Reed, Amy Stevens, Mallory Underwood and Kaila Wong.
