on Sunday, January 29, 2017

Crimson Tide Track & Field:

Alabama's 4x400-meter relay teams turned performances that rank among the best in school history – and among the best in the nation this season – as the Crimson Tide track & field teams wrapped up competition at Clemson's Bob Pollock Invitational on Saturday.

"I thought we had a very solid day today," Alabama head coach Dan Waters said following the meet. "We had some program top-10 performances individually and the 4x400 relays performed very well. All in all, this was a good couple of days for us and gives us some momentum going into the second half of the season."

The women's relay quartet of freshmen Takyera Roberson and Symone Darius and seniors Diamond Gause and Domonique Williams posted the second-fastest time in school history, crossing the finish line in 3:35.91. The time is also the seventh-fastest in the country this year. On the men's side, the relay squad of senior Steven Gayle, sophomore Skyler Bowden, senior Jacopo Lahbi and junior Jereem Richards sprinted to the third-fastest time in school history to win in 3:07.67. The time is the fourth-fastest in the country this season.

In the individual events, freshman Takyera Roberson finished second in the 200 meters in a personal-best time of 23.54. Roberson's time is the third-fastest in Alabama indoor history and the seventh-fastest nationally this season. – Junior Haley Teel won the shot put with a personal-best mark of 52-5 1/4 (15.98m) on her final attempt. The mark is the fourth-best in school history.

For the men, junior Alfred Chelanga made his debut for the Tide, winning the 3,000 meters in 8:06.79. The time is the 10th-fastest in school history. Senior Antibahs Kosgei finished second in a personal-best 8:09.33. In the shot put, Alabama swept the top four spots in the event for the second meet in a row.

Senior Kyle Felpel won the event for third time this season with a mark of 61-1 1/4 (18.62m). Sophomore Kord Ferguson finished second at 58-1 3/4 (17.72m) while seniors Nathan Karr (54-0 1/2; 16.47m) and Hayden Reed (53-9 3/4; 16.40m) finished third and fourth.

Alabama's next scheduled meets take place Feb. 10-11, with the teams splitting their squads between the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa and the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, S.C.
