Alabama Gymnastics Faces Arkansas and Auburn in Double Meet Weekend

on 1/27/2017

Crimson Tide Gymnastics:

The No. 5-ranked Alabama gymnastics team stays on the road this weekend for two meets. The Crimson Tide will face No. 23 Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday while taking on No. 16 Auburn in Birmingham, Ala., on Sunday.

"Going into this double weekend, we're being very strategic," UA head coach Dana Duckworth said. "Our entire week of preparation, we've been very conscious of reps, numbers and landings – we've really monitored all that."

The Crimson Tide's meet against Arkansas will be held in Barnhill Arena at 7:30 p.m. CT and will be televised on the SEC Network. Alabama's meet against Auburn will be held in Legacy Arena starting at 4 p.m. This will be the Tide's only double weekend of the regular season.

The meet in Birmingham is the Tide's annual Elevate the Stage meet, where the Tide and Tigers will compete on a podium. More information on the Elevate meet, including how to purchase tickets, is available at

Alabama is coming off its best score of the young season at Missouri last Friday, where it posted a 197.225. The Tide's score was boosted by a 49.600 on the balance beam, the fourth highest beam tally in school history.

This weekend, Duckworth and company will be juggling the lineup to accommodate two meets in three days, but also to help build quality depth as the Tide moves deeper into the season.

Alabama returns home on Feb. 3 to take on Florida in the Crimson Tide's 13th annual Power of Pink meet. The Power of Pink initiative started under legendary Alabama coach Sarah Patterson to help raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer.
