on 12/15/2016

Crimson Tide Football:

Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen is one of four finalists for the 2016 Rotary Lombardi Award, the Rotary Club of Houston announced on Wednesday.

The Rotary Lombardi Award is presented annually the college football player who best demonstrates outstanding performance and skill in their position and best exemplify the discipline, virtue and wisdom that defined Vincent Lombardi's exceptional brand of leadership.

Alabama's Cornelius Bennett was honored with the Lombardi Award in 1986.

Allen has already collected the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Chuck Bednarik Award, which honor the national defensive player of the year, and the Ted Hendricks Award, which recognizes the top defensive end in college football.

The Leesburg, Va., native is also a unanimous All-America selection as well as the consensus SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

Allen has been a force for a defense that leads the nation in total defense, rushing defense, scoring defense and defensive touchdowns. He leads the Tide in quarterback hurries (15) and shares the team lead in sacks (8.5) to go along with 13.0 tackles for loss.

He has also returned a team-leading two fumble recoveries for 105 combined yards and two touchdowns. His 26.5 career sacks places him second on the Tide's all-time list behind former Crimson Tide standout and NFL Hall of Famer Derrick Thomas.

Allen was joined a finalist for the award by Louisville's Lamar Jackson, Texas A&M's Myles Garrett and Michigan's Jabril Peppers. The 2016 Rotary Lombardi Award winner will be announced at the Lombardi award ceremony on Feb. 11, 2017, in Houston, Texas.
