Jalen Hurts Earns Two More Awards for His Performance against Miss. St...

on 11/16/2016

Crimson Tide Football:

Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts was selected as the Davey O'Brien Quarterback of the Week as well as the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week for his performance in the Crimson Tide's 51-3 win over Mississippi State last Saturday.

The freshman signal-caller accounted for 447 yards of total offense, throwing for a career-high 347 yards while rushing for 100 yards on his way to becoming the only QB in Crimson Tide history to rush for 100-plus yards while passing for 300-plus yards.

Hurts accounted for five touchdowns, throwing for four scores and rushing for one, to tie the school record for total touchdowns in a game. The Channelview, Texas, native finished 28-of-37 with four touchdown and one interception and rushed 11 times for 100 yards and one touchdown.

Hurts' performance against State was the fourth time this season that he has rushed for 100 or more yards while passing for at least 100 yards in the same contest.

His 447 yards of total offense against the Bulldogs is the third-highest single-game total in school history, while his four touchdown passes finished one shy of the Alabama single-game record of five set by Gary Hollingsworth at Ole Miss on Oct. 7, 1969.

Hurts' five total scores also tied the UA record for total touchdowns in a game.

The pair of national honors are his second and third this week. Hurts was also selected as the Southeastern Conference's Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday morning.
