Alabama women's hoops opens new Coleman Coliseum era with big win...

on 11/11/2016

Crimson Tide Women's Basketball:

After a first-quarter deadlock, the Alabama women's basketball team blew past New Orleans for a season-opening win.

The 78-67 final marked the first regular-season game back in Coleman Coliseum in Game 1 of a doubleheader with the men's team.

It was tied at 17 after the opening quarter before Alabama pulled away.

Five different Crimson Tide players hit double figures led by Meoshonti Knight's 18 points. This wasn't a game won at the perimeter as Alabama shot 2-for-14 from 3-point range.

The hosts were 52.9 percent from inside the arc.

Alabama coach Kristy Curry said she liked the way her team responded after being out-rebounded early.
"It was ugly at times," Curry said.

"But ugly counts. It's great to get those first-game jitters in this environment out of our system. It certainly was a good experience for us tonight."

Alabama also had 25 points off the 22 New Orleans turnovers -- 13 of which went down as steals. Knight also led the team in takeaways while Jordan Lewis had four with her 11 points.
